2026 BCSD Teacher of the Year - April Smith, a kindergarten teacher at Barnwell Primary School, has dedicated 24 years to helping young learners build a strong foundation for lifelong success. A National Board Certified educator with a master's degree in Divergent Learning, she is recognized for her passion for early literacy, commitment to the Science of Reading, and belief that every child deserves timely intervention and meaningful opportunities to thrive. Throughout her career, April has served as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, mentor, and grade-level leader, consistently inspiring both students and colleagues through her dedication, innovation, and unwavering focus on student achievement.

2026 BCSD Support Staff of the Year - Tonya Coleman, the 2026 Barnwell County School District Support Staff of the Year, exemplifies servant leadership through her unwavering commitment to students, staff, and the Blackville-Hilda High School community. As the school's In-School Suspension teacher, coach, and mentor, she creates a supportive environment where students feel valued, respected, and encouraged to succeed. Known for going above and beyond her daily responsibilities, Tonya builds meaningful relationships, leads engaging schoolwide initiatives, and consistently steps in wherever she is needed. Her dedication, creativity, and passion for helping others have made a lasting impact on school culture and the lives of the students she serves.
