Barnwell County School District Teacher Wins PSTA Classroom Grant

Barnwell County School District is celebrating Barnwell County Career Center marketing teacher Natasha Broxton, who has been selected as a recipient of a 2026 Palmetto State Teachers Association Classroom Grant.

Broxton received the exciting news Thursday, August 20, when PSTA Director of Teacher Leadership Craig King visited Barnwell County Career Center to surprise her with the announcement.

The grant will support Broxton’s New Lemonade Drink Project, an experiential learning opportunity designed to give students in grades 9–12 hands-on experience with entrepreneurship, product development, marketing and promotion.

“The New Lemonade Drink Project engages students in a hands-on marketing and entrepreneurship experience where they design, brand, and promote an original lemonade beverage targeted to a specific audience,” Broxton said. “Working in teams, students move through two structured phases: product creation and business presentation.”

Through the project, students will have the opportunity to take concepts they are learning in the classroom and apply them to the development of an original product. From identifying a target market and creating a brand to developing promotional strategies and presenting their business concept, students will experience many of the same steps entrepreneurs and marketing professionals encounter in the real world.

The classroom grant program is part of PSTA’s Reinvesting in Our Members Program and is now in its fifth year. Grants are awarded annually to support PSTA members as they develop learning opportunities for students across South Carolina.

Broxton’s award reflects the innovative, career-connected learning taking place throughout Barnwell County School District and the commitment of BCSD educators to creating meaningful experiences that prepare students for success beyond the classroom.

Barnwell County School District congratulates Broxton on this recognition and looks forward to seeing her students bring their ideas — and their lemonade creations — to life.

Every Student Matters. Every Moment Counts.
