Barnwell, SC - September 8, 2026 - Students at Barnwell Primary School received a special game-day welcome on Friday, August 28, as members of the Barnwell High School Warhorse football team and cheerleading squad greeted them upon arrival.
The players and cheerleaders brought tremendous energy, school spirit, and countless smiles to the faces of the BPS Cool Colts. Their visit was a wonderful reminder that Warhorses are simply Cool Colts all grown up!
“Our kids really enjoyed helping out at BPS,” said Barnwell High School Head Football Coach Brian Smith. “Seeing members of the community gave them a great game-day experience and allowed them to share their pride for our town.”
Barnwell Primary School Principal Jared Thrasher shared how much the visit meant to his students.
“Seeing the football players and cheerleaders helping out at BPS was such a blessing,” Thrasher said. “I could see our students as they pulled up to be dropped off with their faces pressed against the windows and smiles beaming on their faces as they couldn’t wait to get out and high-five the players and cheerleaders. What an incredible start to their Friday!”
BHS Cheerleading Coach Amy Williams emphasized that the visit was also a valuable opportunity for her cheerleaders to serve as leaders within their community.
“As coaches, it’s important that our athletes know that there is so much more to cheerleading than what they do on the sideline,” Williams said. “I am proud to say that the BPS morning greetings are actually initiated, planned, and executed by the cheerleaders themselves. They love getting to share a little school spirit, showing up for the younger kids, and being positive role models in the community.”
Barnwell High School Principal Derek Youngblood also praised the student-athletes for representing their school so well.
“We are proud to see our football players and cheerleaders spreading Warhorse Pride beyond the athletic field by welcoming students at Barnwell Primary School,” Youngblood said. “Their energy, positive spirit, and genuine excitement created a memorable start to the school day while serving as wonderful role models for our youngest Warhorses.”
Barnwell Primary School is grateful to these outstanding student-athletes and their coaches for helping students begin the day with such excitement and for demonstrating what it means to be part of the Barnwell family.
