BCSD T-Shirt Design Contest Celebrates Student Creativity and District Vision

Barnwell County School District (BCSD) is excited to announce the results of its districtwide t-shirt design  contest, which was an initiative that encouraged students to creatively express the district’s mission: “Every student matters. Every moment counts.”

Led by BCSD educator, Natasha Broxton, the contest called on students to submit original t-shirt designs that visually represent BCSD’s core values. Judging criteria included creativity and originality, relevance to district values, visual impact and clarity, as well as printability and color use. All designs were required to include the district’s vision statement, be original works, and be appropriate for all audiences.

After reviewing many outstanding submissions, Samelea “Meme” Baxley of WEHS was selected as the contest winner. Her design was recognized for its strong visual clarity and authentic representation of BCSD’s message. Aliyah Daniels of BHS was awarded Honorable Mention for her thoughtful and impactful design.

Both students were formally recognized at the October 21st Board of Trustees meeting, where they were individually congratulated by each member of the Board. In addition to being recognized publicly, Samelea received a $100 gift card, and Aliyah received a $50 gift card. Both students were also presented with gift baskets and commemorative plaques in recognition of their achievement.

Superintendent Dr. Crissie Stapleton and all BCSD Board of Trustees praised the students for their work and extended special appreciation to Mrs. Broxton for her leadership. “This contest was more than just about designing a shirt,” Dr. Stapleton said. “It was about celebrating student voice and reinforcing who we are as a district–because every student truly matters, and every moment really does count.” She also expressed how proud the district is of both Samelea and Aliyah, emphasizing the importance of opportunities that empower students to connect creatively with the values of their school community.

BCSD is grateful to all students who participated and looks forward to continuing initiatives that spotlight student talent and celebrate district values.
